Charlotte Katakuri was introduced in the One Piece story as an antagonist of the Whole Cake Island arc. He's considered to be the backbone of the Big Mom Pirates and the one person who they all look up to whenever they're in need of anything.

10 When He Was First Introduced

Katakuri was a very important figure in One Piece's Whole Cake Island arc and was thus introduced during the main act of this arc. In the manga, he made his debut right before the Tea Party, in One Piece Chapter 860, where he shot Jigra with one of his jelly beans.

In the anime, Katakuri was teased long before the Tea Party in One Piece Episode 825, where he finally arrived at the Whole Cake Chateau in preparation for the Wedding and the Tea Party.

According to the information that the Vivre Card gives on Katakuri, he was born on a certain ship, far from Totland. He did return to Totland at quite a young age, however, as seen in his short flashback in One Piece Chapter 902.

As seen through most of the Whole Cake Island arc, Charlotte Katakuri covers his mouth with a scarf. Initially, it was assumed that he's insecure about his appearance for some reason, however, as his fight with Luffy concluded, it was revealed that he did it to protect his family.

Due to his appearance, Katakuri's family was often subject to abuse by bullies and one day, after Brulee got heavily injured, he chose to hide all his imperfections and become the perfect big brother who every enemy fears.
